Disney+ developing new comedy series set in Wisconsin, featuring Kristin Chenoweth, reports say
APPLETON, Wis. — Just like “Happy Days,” another television show might be set in Wisconsin.
Deadline and Variety report Disney+ is developing a show called “The Biggest Star in Appleton” that would feature Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth would play Carol Dannhauser in the show, a “Wisconsin mom, wife and waitress who, while devoted to her family, finds her deepest satisfaction in small town stardom at the local community theater.”
Dannahauser’s status is threatened when Tara Hubley, a “struggling New York chorus girl moves back home with dreams of her own,” Deadline reports.
The show is being created by Paul Rudnick, and produce Dan Jinks is reportedly involved. Rudnick is known for movies like “Sister Act” and “Adams Family Values.” He’s also done several plays.
Jinks won an Oscar for “American Beauty.”
Chenoweth is known for her Broadway roles in “Wicked” and “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.”
No release date or other casting information was announced.
Disney+ features a load of Disney content. It’s been a popular service since it launched in November.
