Deputies looking for driver who crashed into Amish buggy, killed horse in Town of Darlington
TOWN OF DARLINGTON, Wis. — Deputies are looking for the driver who crashed into an Amish buggy and killed a horse in the Town of Darlington early Sunday morning.
According to a news release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, units were sent to the 17000 block of State Highway 81 at 2:57 a.m. after a report of a crash between a vehicle and buggy.
An investigation revealed that Joseph S. King, 20, of Darlington, was driving an open buggy being pulled by a single horse when a vehicle struck the buggy.
Officials said King, the horse and buggy were all thrown into a ditch. The driver had not stopped and left the scene.
The release said King was able to make contact with nearby residents, who called to report the crash.
Authorities said King suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. However, his horse was killed in the crash, and the buggy sustained severe damage.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
