Deputies: 1 dead, 3 injured, including suspect, in Sparta homicide

TOWN OF SPARTA, Wis. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide Sunday in a Town of Sparta home.

According to a news release, officials received a call around 11:40 a.m. about a disturbance and were told there were three people who were injured from an edged weapon.

The release said law enforcement arrived at the home and found a person outside with a rifle.

Officials said the suspect had shot themselves prior to emergency officials arriving. The man was taken into custody.

The suspect and one victim were taken away by ambulances, the release said. A second victim had serious injuries and was transported by Gundersen Air, while a third victim inside the home was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
