Demolition Starts At Old Royster Clark Site

Demolition started at an east Madison property that housed the abandoned Royster Clark Fertilizer plant.

On Wednesday, crews started clearing the way for a new residential and commercial development on the 27-acre parcel that sits at Cottage Grove and Dempsey Roads.

Ruedebusch Development has plans for a combination of single-and multi-family housing along with office and retail space.

“As a developer, we knew what we were getting into it, we knew what the expectations are of the neighbors and then working with the city, it was a big advantage,” said developer Carl Ruedebusch.

Remediation to remove old nitrogen fertilizer from the site started this year and will continue into next, with a focus on recycling what’s left behind.
