Democrats want numbers before recount decisions
MADISON, Wis. — Democrats trailing in two state Assembly races are going to wait for the official results before deciding whether to seek recounts.
Preliminary results from Tuesday’s election show Republican Dave Heaton leading incumbent state Rep. Mandy Wright by 86 votes in the 85th District. Republican Todd Novak was leading Democrat Dick Cates by 59 votes in the 51st District.
Wright and Cates would be entitled to a free recount since the margin separating them from their opponents is less than a percentage point. The deadline for making a recount request is three days after local canvassing boards complete their official vote counts. Those counts must be done by Nov. 18.
Joel Gratz heads the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee. He says Wright and Cates want the final counts before making a decision.
