DeForest Beats Waunakee In Boys’ Basketball

You don’t need to add any drama whenever teams from Waunakee and DeForest high schools get together, but both teams had plenty of it as they battled each other in a WIAA sectional semifinal in Middleton on Thursday.

DeForest ended up winning the tight-fought battle 49-46 to advance to the sectional final Saturday against Stoughton.

Waunakee did have the lead late. They took a 42-38 lead after Ryan Kruser hit a 3-pointer.

But that’s when DeForest’s Brandon Staffeil took charge. He hit two 3-pointers as part of a game-high 14 points to give DeForest a 49-46 lead.

Tim Keenan for Waunakee has a chance to tie the game with a last second shot, but the shot just misses.

Waunakee ends their season with a 21-4 record. DeForest is now 17-8.
