DeForest advances to D1 softball semifinals
Sarah Stewart hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning to give DeForest a 5-4 win over Germantown in the Division One semifinals at the WIAA State Softball tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison Friday.
The game was originally suspended in the third inning when rain hit Thursday. The game resumed at 8:30 am Friday morning.
DeForest had a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Germantown tied the game with three runs.
But in the 10th, Lydia Schuchardt led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Stewart’s run-scoring fly to left.
Kennedy Wittman pitched all 10 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight for the win.
DeForest moves on to the Division One semifinals. The Norskies will play Watertown, a 16-2 winner over defending champion Kimberly.
DeForest faces Watertown at 9:30 am Saturday morning at Country View Elementary School in Verona. That will be followed by the other Division One Semifinal between Westosha Central and Bay Port at around 11:30 Saturday morning.
The Division Three semifinal between Bloomer and Laconia has also been moved to Country View Elementary in Verona at 9:30 Saturday morning.
