Day care provider bound for trial
Attorney General: Hartje suspected of injuring 3-year-old
MADISON, Wis. — A Mauston day care provider is bound for trial after appearing in court Friday.
Stacy Hartje, 28, was arrested earlier this year on charges related to the injury of a 3-year-old child.
On Friday, the court found probable cause to believe the felonies were committed and that Hartje was suspected in the crime. She was charged with three felony counts, including first-degree reckless injury, recklessly causing great bodily harm to a child and first-degree reckless endangering safety.
A pretrial date was set for Oct. 1.
Hartje was providing care to the child on June 7, 2007, when she called 911 reporting that the child was having a seizure and was non-responsive, said the attorney general. According to the criminal complaint, the child’s injury occurred after the child was left with Hartje. The complaint said that the child’s injuries would have resulted in death without life-saving surgery.
