Dawn M. Thorn
Dawn M. Thorn, age 56, of Janesville, died Friday, October 31, 2014, at University Hospital, Madison. She was born on May 3, 1958, in Tomahawk, WI, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Hietala) Roberts. Dawn graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1976, attended UW-Stevens Point, and received her Associate’s Degree from UW-Rock County. Dawn was united in marriage to Jack Thorn on September 27, 1980, in Tomahawk, WI, at which time she relocated to Janesville. Dawn was a member of St. William Catholic Church, where she taught religious education classes.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; 3 daughters: Hillary, Chelsea and Kyleigh Thorn, all of Janesville; her mother, Anna; 4 sisters: Mary (David) McKibben of East Bethel, MN, Roberta (William) Smith of Tomahawk, WI, Nadine (Gary) Weber of Merrill, WI and Jody (Greg) Eick of White Bear Lake, MN; nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, in 1981.
Dawn was a patient, devoted mother, a loving and supportive wife, and a bright, creative spirit with a timely sense of humor. She was blessed with a great capacity for working with children, and thoroughly enjoyed her positions with the Janesville School District. Her lifelong love of flowers was evident in her work at Janesville Floral, her cultivation of plants and gardens at home, and her volunteer roles at Rotary Botanical Gardens. Dawn enjoyed sewing, crafting, and spending family vacations in the Rockies of Colorado and Wyoming, always on the lookout for heart-shaped rocks.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Nov 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH, with Fr. John Auby presiding. Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov 5, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY and again on Thursday, Nov 6, 2014, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church.
