David Ralph Van Wie
David Van Wie, age 67 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 7, 2017 at his residence.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Eric Sternberg celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
David was born September 19, 1949 in Baraboo, Wisconsin the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Bisely) Van Wie. He was a 1968 graduate of Wisconsin Dells High School, attended Milwaukee Institute of Technology. He joined the family business working for Dells Lumber for approximately 15 years. He later worked for the Dorn family, a loyal employee of Portage Lumber for 33 years. An active member of the Wisconsin Dells community, he dedicated himself to projects through the Kiwanis and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. A devout Catholic, he was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. He opened his heart and his home for decades to his nieces, nephews, friends of his children as well as to many Wisconsin Dells summer employees. Dave’s door was always open and everyone was always welcome. Good times and laughter shared with friends and family will always be a part of Dave’s legacy.
David is survived by his children, Heather (Scott) Young of Wisconsin Dells and their children, Tyler, Carolyn and Brayden; Matthew (Jennifer) Van Wie of Third Lake, Illinois and their children, Isaac, Abigail and Cecilia; Heidi (Dan) Benz of Janesville, Wisconsin and their children, Brielle and Brittany; and Amanda (Jason) Moudry of Poynette, Wisconsin and their children, Madison and Alexander Roll; brothers and sisters, Robert (Evelyn) of Wisconsin Dells, John (Joanne) of Wisconsin Dells, Bill (Paula) of Wisconsin Dells, Elizabeth (Cliff) Wolfram of Wisconsin Dells, and Mary of Springfield, Virginia. David was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, Gregory Van Wie and sidekick, Jerry “Ruby” Neises.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church would be appreciated.
