David Paul LaPorte, age 69, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 25, 2014 in New Glarus after a battle with cancer. He was born on November 21, 1945 in Madison to his parents John and Inez (Judd) LaPorte. David served in the United States Navy and United States Air Force for over twenty years. After his military service he graduated from Regis University in Denver. Early on David developed an understanding, hobby, and vocation for computers and technology that he shared with others. David worked as a technology instructor for many years and was the assistant director of technology at Roosevelt University until 2011. Most recently he traveled the U.S. teaching fiber optics. David loved to travel the world, and throughout the country by motorcycle. He also enjoyed the opportunities in the outdoors and nature that came from living in Alaska and Colorado.
David is survived by MarLyn Jeglum, daughters Holly LaPorte and Jen (Tim Croy) LaPorte, grandchildren Bethe Croy and Conner Gustafson, and ex-wife and good friend Carol Nickels.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1988, mother in 2005, and a sister Arlene Ott in 2011.
A time of remembrance will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI.
