Dane County taking part in The Salvation Army’s national bell-ringing challenge

Salvation Army diverts families from shelter with pilot program

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Dane County is taking part in The Salvation Army’s national bell-ringing challenge.

The Salvation Army’s National Commander issued a bell-ringing challenge to officers across the country this week in an effort to raise funds necessary to maintain programs and services year-round.

Major Melissa Shiels accepted the challenge and will be ringing bells at the Sun Prairie Walmart from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday.

The challenge’s winner will join the National Commander for the National Red Kettle Kickoff at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Game in 2021.

“The Dane County community has proven to be generous during the kettle campaign in years past and we know this year, even with its challenges, won’t be any different,” Shiels said in a statement. “The real winners in the bell-ringing challenge are the people we serve who will get a warm bed and a hot meal.”

The 2020 Red Kettle campaign ends at 8 p.m. on Dec. 24.
