Dane County Sheriff’s Department may receive rifle shield grant
MADISON, Wis. — Dane County’s Finance Committee on Monday was considering a $4,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to buy rifle shields to protect deputies from anyone firing a high-powered weapon.
The grant would allow Dane County sheriff’s deputies to have extra protection in their most dangerous situations.
“With the increase in use of long guns in incidences across the country and also on law enforcement, we felt it was very important to provide this level of protection for our staff,” said Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney.
There’s no indication of how many shields could be purchased with the grant or whether any taxpayer money would be used to cover any of the cost of the equipment.
