Dane County Board bans elephants at Alliant Energy Center
Ban is first of its kind in state
MADISON, Wis. — After hours of debate, the Dane County Board of Supervisors voted Thursday to ban the use of performing elephants at the Alliant Energy Center.
The board voted 23-9 in favor of the ban after concerns about elephant mistreatment surfaced.
This is the first ban of its kind in the state.
District 24 Supervisor Robin Schmidt said she introduced an amendment to protect Alliant’s current contract with Zor Shrine Circus, so it can use elephants until its contract ends in 2020.
