Dale A. Detert
MADISON — Dale A. Detert, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare after a brief illness. He was born on April 5, 1935, the son of Walter and Sylvia (Miller) Detert.
Dale graduated from Janesville High School in 1953. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the period of the Korean War. He attended vocational school and became an aircraft mechanic. Dale was united in marriage to Bette Gardner on Sept. 26, 1964, in Montello.
Dale and Bette raised their family, Dana and Diana in Madison. Dale spent a lot of time with his daughter Dana and supporting her in Special Olympics and other activities. He was very proud of all Dana had accomplished. Dale’s other great joy in recent years was his granddaughters, Allison, Cassandra, and Stephanie. He loved spending time with them, hearing about and attending their events.
Aircraft remained a passion through Dale’s life and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman who was known to circle the Madison lakes daily looking to see where people were fishing and what was being caught.
Dale is survived by two daughters, Dana Detert of Madison, and Diana (Don) Trask of Madison; three granddaughters, Allison, Cassandra, and Stephanie Trask; brother, Dan Detert of Janesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bette; and two brothers-in-law, Alan and John.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, and also at 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
