Customer spills 15-17 gallons of gas, refuses to pay, officials say
MADISON, Wis. — A customer who was not attending the pump at a gas station spilled between 15 and 17 gallons of gas and then refused to pay for the excess gallons, officials said.
According to a release, the gas spilled onto the concrete at a Citgo gas station in the 2300 block of Commercial Avenue around 10:35 a.m.
The customer was not attending to the pump while pumping gas when the spill happened, officials said.
While emergency crews were responding to the gas station, the customer managed to lock himself out of the vehicle, according to the release.
Firefighters applied absorbent powder around the pump, the vehicle and across the parking lot to the sidewalk, officials said.
According to the release, the customer, who refused to pay for the excess gasoline, called police.
Crews notified the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources of the spill.
