John Lackey allowed three hits in eight innings and Willson Contreras and Kris Bryant each added solo home runs as Chicago beat Los Angeles in the series opener for its eighth straight win.

Lackey (9-7) surrendered a first-inning home run and little else while walking one and striking out six in his fourth eight-inning effort of the season.

Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-3 and scored twice and Jorge Soler had two hits in his fourth consecutive start since coming off the disabled list.
