Cuba City Sets WIAA Record In Victory
Coach Jerry Pettigue has had many great teams while coaching the Cuba City Cubans for the past 40 years.
Cuba City has gone to the state tournament 11 times, but he’s never had a team do what his players did in the WIAA Division 4 semifinals in Madison on Friday.
Cuba City beat Oshkosh Lourdes 72-27 Friday to set a record for the largest margin of victory ever in a state championship semifinal or final game.
The Cubans jumped out early. Cory Vassen scored 13, along with an impressive drive to the hoop in the first half. Zach Adams, who also had 13, got out on the break for another score.
Cuba City last won a title in 1998. They will go for another Saturday against Whitefish Bay Dominican.
