Criminal complaint: Bank robber wrote ‘Give me the money, be quiet’ on note to teller
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The suspected Sun Prairie bank robber who wrote a note to a teller saying “Give me the money, be quiet, right now I’m robbing you” appeared in court Friday for his initial hearing.
Alex Melton, 30, is charged with theft from a financial institution and five counts of felony bail jumping, according to the criminal complaint. The judge set a $20,000 cash bail.
Melton robbed the Bank of Sun Prairie on Sept. 27, according to the complaint. Officials say he entered the bank lobby, passed a note demanding money and left with $2,179 in cash. He did not display a weapon and no employees were injured, according to a report from police.
Melton was arrested on Sept. 29 and confessed to the robbery to officers.
Prior to the robbery, Melton had a history of theft charges , and there was a warrant out for his arrest.
