Crews respond to sinkhole, water main break in Portage

PORTAGE, Wis. — Crews are responding to a sinkhole that opened up Tuesday afternoon on E. Slifer Street between Winnebago Avenue and Yellowstone Street.

According to the Portage Police Department, a water main break caused the sinkhole to open up around 2:30 p.m. Crews are on scene working to repair the roadway. Officials said the road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.

All lanes of E. Slifer Street are closed between Winnebago Avenue and Yellowstone Street. Drivers are advised to take East Minnehaha Avenue to avoid the road closure.
