Crews respond to several Dumpster fires in downtown Madison
Fire destroys Dumpsters, damages apartment siding
MADISON, Wis. — Madison firefighters are investigating several Dumpster fires that broke out early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to a 32-unit apartment building off North Brooks Street about 12:20 a.m. Sunday.
Six Dumpsters outside the building were on fire, and flames were shooting 20 feet in the air by the time crews arrived, according to the Madison Fire Department.
University of Wisconsin-Madison police alerted firefighters to another Dumpster that was on fire the next street over on Gerry Court.
That fire involved the same type of Dumpster bins, and it burned a wood structure above it and melted siding at an apartment.
A total of 12 Dumpsters burned, along with three stories of new siding at both buildings.
