Crews clean up chlorine from crash involving pool-chemical truck
Chlorine spill on Northport Drive at Sherman Avenue

A crash involving a car and a truck filled with pool chemicals on Madison’s north side led to a chlorine spill Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The crash at the corner of Sherman Avenue and Northport Drive just before 1 p.m. caused a lid to fly off a chlorine tank on the truck, according to a release.

The chemical truck also had two other tanks on board containing sulfuric and muriatic acids, but those lids remained intact and no chemicals mixed during the impact, officials said.

Fire crews hosed down the area to dilute the chlorine based on advice from the Madison Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team, according to the release.

Traffic was diverted around the crash area about 30 minutes, but the intersection is back open, officials said.

One driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.
