Crellin H. Johnson
Crellin H. Johnson, age 88, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. She was born on Dec. 11, 1925, in Kewanee, Ill., the daughter of John and Philippa (Hendra) Hartman. Crellin married her college sweetheart, Ward Johnson, and together they made Madison their home. She graduated from UW-Madison School of Music and worked as a Supervisor of Music in the Ludington, Mich. School District and later, the Madison School District and Central Colony, within their music programs. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bridge, and she was a docent at the Elvehjem Art Museum. Crellin was especially known as the pianist for Twelfth Night — the Nakoma neighborhood’s annual original musical, and for children’s theatre Play Time Productions. She has been a beloved, 50 year member of P.E.O. Chapter H. Crellin loved spending summers at the family cottage at Epworth Heights in Ludington, Mich. As an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, she directed the children’s choir and sang in the adult choir. Crellin was a gentle soul with a quick wit.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Johnson and Susan (Bob) Lomasney; her son, Charley Johnson; granddaughter, Laura Johnson; and her sister, Sally Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, John Hartman.
