Traffic was delayed on southbound Interstate 39/90 near Janesville after a semitrailer overturned while swerving to try to avoid an SUV that had crashed, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to the southbound lanes of Interstate 39 at Highway 26 near Janesville around 6:40 p.m. Monday for reports of a crash, according to a release.

An SUV merging into southbound lanes of Interstate 39/90 from Highway 26 lost control and crashed into the interstate media wall on the bridge over Highway 26, officials said.

A semitrailer going south on the interstate swerved to avoid the SUV and hit the concrete barrier on the right, causing the semi to land on its side, according to the release. The overturned semi blocked both lanes of southbound I-39/90.

The driver of the semi, Sor Thao, 40, from Minneosta, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Walter James Knights Jr., of Beloit, was not injured.

Traffic was delayed for several hours as crews cleaned up the crash site.
