Crash causes up to $10K damage to craft store, fire officials say
MADISON, Wis. — A craft store on Madison’s east side sustained thousands of dollars’ worth of damage after a vehicle struck it Sunday afternoon.
A driver told officials she intended to back up her vehicle when she was leaving the Ben Franklin Crafts Store at 4108 Monona Drive at about 3 p.m. but accidentally accelerated forward with the car in drive.
The Madison Fire Department said the vehicle was backed out of the structure before emergency crews arrived, and the collision did not compromise the integrity of the building.
The driver wasn’t injured, according to the report.
The fire department estimated damage to the building at between $7,500 and $10,000.
The vehicle had only minor damage, fire officials said.
