Convenience store clerk hit with hammer in armed robbery

An armed robber attacked a convenience store clerk with a hammer as part of an armed robbery on the north side of Middleton late Tuesday night, according to Middleton police.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. at the PDQ store at 5301 S. Ridge Way in Middleton.

According to police, a man entered the store, went to the checkout counter, pulled the clerk across the counter and hit him in the head with a hammer. Police said he demanded the clerk open the cash register.

Police said the clerk, who was shocked by the attack, didn’t respond and the attacker ran from the store. Officers, helped by a town of Madison K-9 team, were unable to locate the attacker. Police said the clerk was taken to the hospital.

Police said the attacker is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 to 190 pounds, with dark blonde hair. He was last seen wearing tan pants, a brown camouflage coat with the hood up and a blue bandana over his face.
