Complaint: 14-year-old’s father finds sexual assault suspect in closet
JANESVILLE, Wis. — A Janesville man faces a sexual assault charge after meeting a 14-year-old online and having a sexual relationship with her for more than a year, according to a criminal complaint.
Brandon Moon, 25, was charged Friday with repeated sexual assault of a child.
According to the complaint, Albany police contacted Janesville police on April 18 about an investigation into the sexual assault of a child.
A Green County caseworker told officials she got a report of a 14-year-old having a sexual relationship with a Janesville man, officials said. The girl’s father said he believed the relationship was over after finding Moon hiding in his daughter’s closet in July 2016, but the relationship continued, according to the complaint.
The teen told police she met Moon about a year ago on the website Plenty of Fish, but said she ended the relationship when her father found him in her closet, according to the complaint.
A friend of the teen told police she lied about having a relationship with Moon during questioning, and that the relationship was sexual in nature, officials said.
Police executed a search warrant April 20 at Moon’s apartment, and found a list with reasons why it wasn’t good that he was with the teen, according to the complaint. The reasons included the girl’s age and the fact that he could go to jail.
During questioning, Moon originally denied that their relationship was sexual, but eventually admitted to writing the list police found at his apartment and to having a sexual relationship with the teen, authorities said.
If he is found guilty, Moon faces a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine, up to 40 years in prison or both. He will be back in court Thursday for an initial appearance.
