Cold weather forces street crews to use sand
Madison crews to focus on main arterials Wednesday
Cold weather is forcing the Madison streets department to change plans in cleaning up the roads Wednesday.
Officials said that workers will mainly be using sand to provide traction on city streets Wednesday following snow overnight.
Officials said they aren’t using salt at this time, since temperatures are too cold for it to be effective.
Plow and sand crews have been out since snow started to fall, and will focus on the city’s 32 main routes. Those include main arterials, main connector streets, Madison Metro bus routes and streets around schools and hospitals.
Workers will also be sanding the hills, intersections and curves on residential streets throughout the day.
