Cold, snowy weather slows blood donations
Red Cross canceled 6 blood drives across state because of weather
MADISON, Wis. — The recent cold snap is having a major impact on the Red Cross.
Blood drives in 25 states were canceled because of the cold and snowy weather, including six in Wisconsin.
The Red Cross said it lost out on thousands of donations, making an already difficult time even more difficult.
There’s an urgent need for O-positive, O-negative, A-negative and B-negative blood types, officials said.
“It’s the blood that’s already on the shelves that saves lives when people are injured or need surgeries, and that’s why we’re really asking people to just give an hour out of your time, give a blood donation, and it can really help your neighbors in need,” said Brian Gomez, with the American Red Cross.
Those who are able to donate can call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go online.
