JANESVILLE – Claudine J. Hammarlund, age 82, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Cedar Crest. She was born April 6, 1930, the daughter of Franklin and Alvira (Cornell) Winnie in Whitewater, WI. She graduated from Whitewater High School in 1948 and UW-Whitewater in 1952 with a degree in Business Education. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the band, Pi Omega Pi Honorary Fraternity, and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. On June 15, 1952, she married Clarence P. Hammarlund in Whitewater. While her husband served in the military, she worked as secretary to the chief of security at the Air Force Missile Test Center at Cape Canaveral, FL and later as secretary to the Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly in Madison, WI, while her husband served in Korea. A resident of Janesville since 1955, she was a member of First Lutheran Church, its women’s circles and Altar Guild. She also served as a substitute teacher in the Janesville School District, as well as attending grandchildren’s baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball games.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence; 2 daughters, Diane (Keith) Burdick of Sun Prairie, WI, and Lori (Eric) Lorenz of Mequon, WI; 5 grandchildren: Brett (Elizabeth) Burdick of Madison, WI; Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Burdick of Antigo, WI; Scott, Melanie and Randall Lorenz of Mequon, WI; 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylee Burdick and Myles Burdick; and niece, Elizabeth Jane (Hartman) Strother of Jasper, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Winnie; sisters-in-law, Mary (Flood) Winnie and Elaine (Hammarlund) Hartman; and brother-in-law, Dr. John Hartman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Naomi Garber officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Cedar Crest.
