Clarice Chorlog Quale Christensen

OREGON- Clarice Chorlog Quale Christensen, age 98, died on Friday, July 20, 2012. She was born on June 18, 1914, the daughter of Johannes and Inga Chorlog.

Clarice married Roy Christensen on March 30, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They were married in a double wedding with their lifelong friends, Collins and Merle Richardson. As a farmer’s wife, Clarice tended to the chickens, sold eggs for many years and made meals for hungry farm hands. She lived on the same farm for 73 years. Visitors were offered hot coffee, something to eat and a rosemaled spoon. Clarice was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon. She was a co-planner of the making of Chrismons, church cook books, Lets Ring That Bell and the Birds of the Bible program. She was well known for her artistic talents. She was a rosemaler and taught rosemaling at the Oregon MATC. She designed the Stoughton Syttende Mai plates for 22 years, logos for area towns and organizations, smorgasbord posters and much more.

Clarice is survived by her three children, Roger (Barb) Christensen of Fitchburg, Arlen (Gloria) Christensen of Oregon and Marlys (Jim) Nettesheim of Oregon; and six grandchildren, Bob (Peggy) Christensen, Brian (Carol) Christensen, Kevin (Linda) Christensen, Karla (Dan) Donohue, Sara (Jammey) Gragg and Matt (Bridget) Nettesheim. She is also survived by her 16 great-grandchildren, Eric, Emily, Ian, Megan, Nick, Sean, Danielle Jo, Sheena, Scott, Tabitha, Danielle, Shane, Gabrielle, Lauren, Garret and Colin; two great-great-grandchildren, Dominic and Cortlynn Jo; sister, Dolores Godding Smith; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Roy in 1996; parents, Johannes (1915) and Inga Chorlog Quale; step father, Edward Quale; sisters, Eldoray Quale and Lorraine Vergeront; and brother, Vernon Quale.

Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 East Netherwood, Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, July 23, 2012 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Clarice’s honor to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Skaalen Home Chapel.
