City of Madison preps for ‘long-duration winter event’
MADISON, Wis. – The City of Madison said it’s prepared for a ‘long-duration winter event,’ according to a news release on Friday afternoon.
The release said drivers should make good choices before and during their trips this weekend, allowing for extra time to travel to destinations safely.
Streets Division crews reportedly applied a brine pre-treatment to the salt route network through the day Friday to prevent snow from binding to the pavement.
The city hopes it leads to less overall salt usage.
On Friday night, Madison is sending 32 plow trucks to salt routes, plowing and salting major streets, including roads around schools, hospitals and Madison Metro bus routes.
The Streets Division will send another update Saturday.
