The City of Janesville will be receiving a $250,000 state grant to finance the construction of a new downtown hotel, officials announced Monday.

The community investment grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation will support the construction of a Cobblestone Hotel & Suites, a 53-room, four-story hotel overlooking the Rock River.

According to a release, the hotel will be 33,000 square feet with an indoor pool, an exercise facility and a restaurant.

The release said the hotel’s downtown location will help position Janesville as a destination.

“A vibrant downtown is vital to a community’s overall economic success, and the new Cobblestone Hotel & Suites will play a key role in bringing more visitors to downtown Janesville to enjoy the many amenities the city has to offer,” said Mark R. Hogan, secretary and CEO of WEDC.

The release said it will fill the hospitality market gap as the only hotel in downtown Janesville. Construction has started and the hotel is expected to open in February 2019.
