City crews ready to plow bike paths on weekend

Increased snowfall blows town, county plowing budgets

MADISON, Wis. — Thanks to additional funding, city crews are fully prepared to plow bike paths throughout the city.

According to a news release from the city, new funding went into effect on New Year’s Day to support snow removal on bike paths on weekends and holidays, in addition to its regular schedule.

The release said there are about 61 total miles of bike paths in the city.

Crews will start the snow-removal process with construction utility vehicles that have special attachments like blades and brushes. If conditions call for salt or sand use, crews will opt to use sand first. Salt will only be used as a last resort, according to the release.
