Church holds special mass to pray for rain
Many farmers' crops in need of rain
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — Catholics in Sun Prairie held a special mass to pray for rain amid the drought.
Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, where a large part of the congregation are farmers, held the mass for rain Tuesday evening.
“The intention of the mass as well as the intention of the people who gather for mass is asking God to send us the rain that we need for our fields and for our crops,” said the Rev. Duane Moellenberndt. “Sacred Hearts has a strong farming community and the drought is certainly hurting not just our farmers, but the entire congregation eventually.”
Moellenberndt said the parish found in its Catholic book of prayers a special mass dedicated to praying for rain.
“So I think our example should be to follow what Elijah did. That we all come here together in prayer, climbing up our own spiritual Mount Carmel to ask our God to send us the rain,” said Deacon Vince Brewer.
Dairy farmer Al Rademacher said his 600 acres of corn need rain.
“I’ve been praying since June 1, because since June 1 I’ve had half an inch of rain,” Rademacher said. “I always had a good attitude, and I feel the Lord with help us out.”
Parishioners said praying together for a much-needed cause gives them even more faith relief is on the way.
