Child in back seat fires gun, kills 26-year-old driver, police say

Officials ID 23-year-old woman killed in Sauk County crash

The father of a woman who was fatally shot while driving on a Milwaukee highway says it was the woman’s two-year-old son who fired the gun from the backseat.

Milwaukee County sheriff’s officials say a child somehow got hold of a gun and shot a 26-year-old woman once in the back as she drove south on Highway 175 Tuesday. The sheriff’s department has not identified the woman or her relationship to the child.

But, Andre Price tells WISN-TV that his daughter, Patrice Price, was driving her boyfriend’s car when she was shot by her son. He says his daughter was a hardworking mother of three.

Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. for a person who had been shot in a vehicle on Interstate 49/Highway 175 southbound near Vliet Street, officials said.

The 26-year-old driver was unconscious and not breathing when emergency crews arrived, according to the release. She died at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.
