Child dies after family struck by airborne vehicle
Family eating dinner at picnic table when accident happened
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police said a 7-year old child has died following a bizarre crash on Tuesday evening outside an office building on Madison’s West Side.
A family was having dinner at a picnic table on private property on Madison’s far West Side was struck by a wayward vehicle. The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. in a neighborhood just south of Mineral Point Road and west of South Whitney Way
Police said an elderly driver went off the roadway and hit a small tree. They said the vehicle went airborne and landed on the picnic table.
A 36-year-old woman was critically injured. A 38-year-old man and 4-year-old girl suffered injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The Wisconsin State Journal said the injured were taken to University of Wisconsin and Meriter hospitals.
