Chief: Armed security guard shoots, kills robber at bank on Madison’s far east side
There is no threat to public, Koval says

MADISON, Wis. — A security guard at a Chase Bank on Madison’s far east side shot and killed an attempted armed robber Thursday, according to officials.
Madison Police Chief Mike Koval told News 3 that witnesses said the robber, who was a man in his 20s, covered his face with his hands, gestured to the teller as if he had a weapon and held up a bag demanding money. A weapon was not seen, according to Koval.

The armed security guard who worked for the bank confronted the robber and then shot the him. Officials tried to render aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound.
Koval said the security guard is cooperating with police.

The Madison Police Department responded to the report of the robbery at 4513 Milwaukee St. around 4:40 p.m., according to officials.
The investigation of the robbery is ongoing. Koval said there is no danger to the public at this time.

This was the fourth attempted robbery at this particular bank, according to Koval. A man wearing a Deadpool Halloween mask robbed the bank on Dec. 5. Another man, dressed in all black, robbed the bank on Jan. 26.
Koval said there is a task force in place to investigate the recent spike in armed robberies. This is the first bank robbery that has involved a death, according to Koval.
