Charges allege man wanted to hit pedestrian in crosswalk

A criminal complaint said a Sauk City man accused of striking and killing a woman as she crossed a Madison street told police he “wanted to hit her.”

Madison police said 25-year-old Adam M. Sutter was driving on East Washington Avenue at North Stoughton Road on June 18 when he struck 36-year-old Sara Wolf as she was crossing the street. Wolf died.

Sutter is charged with first-degree reckless homicide and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Police said Sutter was making a right turn when he ran a red light and hit Wolf, who was in the crosswalk.

The complaint said Sutter told an officer at the scene that he “just kinda speeded up and hit the lady.”

Cash bail was set at $100,000 in Dane County court Friday. The judge ordered Sutter not to operate a vehicle or drink.

A preliminary hearing in the case was set for Thursday at 9 a.m.
