Cause of landfill fire deemed accidental
Officials: Construction materials caught fire
MADISON, Wis. — Multiple crews had to respond to a fire at the Dane County landfill on Madison’s southeast side early Thursday morning after a pile of construction materials caught fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene of the fire at 7102 U.S. Highway 12-18 just after 5 a.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, they found a pile of rubbish on fire in the area of a building the houses construction waste. Two of the sprinklers inside the building were activated because of the fire.
Firefighters got the fire under control in less than 30 minutes. No one was injured.
Damage to the building is estimated at $5,000.
Fire officials said they believe something in the pile ignited it, but the exact cause is undetermined. The fire is not considered suspicious.
