Carts in Parks program officially begins
MADISON, Wis. — The city’s Carts in Parks program is now officially underway.
Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway attended a ribbon-cutting event Sunday marking the start of the city-wide food truck program, which will provide daily food cart vending in 20 parks around Madison.
The city received a $50,000 grant to help pay for the pilot program. The goal is to help vendor succeed and overcome barriers with food vending. That’s something that’s become even more important for businesses that have struggled during the pandemic, especially minority-owned businesses.
“It’s just a kick-start for that, you know?” Jessica Cavazos with the Latino Chamber of Commerce said. “Let’s support our small businesses here in the inner city of Madison and help promote their revenue and get them back up and starting.”
Madison was one of 10 cities nationwide selected for the program. It’s slated to run through early fall.
