Carolyn Arlene Egan

Carolyn Arlene Egan

JANESVILLE-Carolyn Arlene Egan, age 68, of Janesville, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Friday, April 7, 2017.

She passed peacefully with her son, Dan by her side, after visits from her two sisters and her granddaughters.

Carolyn was born on May 26, 1948, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Kenneth and Arlene (Moritz) Graves. She always wanted her friends and family to be happy, and often showed her love through generosity. Even when she was a teenager and had her first job, she would bring home gifts for her younger sisters. Early in Carolyn’s marriage, she worked two jobs to support her husband through college. Then, while her children were young, she spent her time as a devoted mother and was Cub Scout den leader, Sunday school teacher, crafter of many costumes for holidays and special events, and baker of the fanciest cakes for every bake sale.

Carolyn was determined to give her children a good life, and wanted to provide more than she had during her childhood. When her children were older, she returned to school and earned a teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Carolyn was a well-known and often requested substitute teacher in the Janesville schools for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and teaching others to sew, cooking and baking, and most of all she cherished time with her grandchildren.

Carolyn was a proud grandmother, and even when she was very sick, every nurse and doctor in the hospital commented that they had been shown pictures of her granddaughters. Her grandchildren will remember her as the grandmother who showered them with gifts at every visit, saying, “I’m the Grandma, I get to do this.”

Carolyn is survived by two sons, Daniel (Alice) Egan and Michael Egan; two sisters, Anita Moore and Sheila Mullins; her brother, Wayne Graves; and three granddaughters, Devyn, Laine and Vivian Egan. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at CARGILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 2000 Wesley Ave., Janesville at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, with Pastor Susan Lockman presiding.
