Caroline Shanks Steiner, age 91, entered her heavenly home on Mon. Dec. 4, 2017.
She was born Dec. 15, 1925 to John and Sarah Shanks in Belfast Northern Ireland.
Caroline met her husband Victor L. Steiner during World War II Era. Victor was in the Army Air Corps and Stationed at Langfield Lodge outside Belfast. He was discharged in 1946 and wrote many letters and remained friends after his return to the states. Victor proposed in a letter to Caroline and she accepted. They were married May 15, 1948 at St. Aiden’s church in Belfast. Victor and Caroline came across the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary through Ellis Island NY. The statue of Liberty greeted them upon their arrival and what a sight to behold it was. Caroline became a US citizen in 1949. They settled in Mazomanie all their life.
Caroline had five children, Victor, Dennis (Debbie), Patricia (Reuben) Borgen, David (Lona), and Kevin (Rosalie); 10 grandchildren, Tiffany (Gianderson) Retcheski, Tauna (James) Simms, Amy Jambura (fiancee,Timothy Leigh), Katie (Andy) Bevier, Trisha (Michael) Sutherland, Tracy (Dan) Wells, Connor, Jackson, Jordan, and Logan Steiner.
13 great-grandchildren, Ayden and Caleb Retcheski, J.J. Simms, Cadence and Paige Jambura, Stella and Henry Bevier, Finnegan, Isabelle and Lorelei Sutherland, Kamryn, Gavyn, and Breckyn Wells.
Caroline is further survived by her sister, Sarah Peterson of Arena, Christine Steiner of Sauk City, brother, Samuel (Alice) Shanks, sister, Barbara Shanks, special cousin, Sandra (David Cobain); a goddaughter, Jean Nelson all of Belfast, Northern Ireland and extended family.
Very special friends, Mary Lou Borgen, Vicki Ripp, and Peggy Berger; many more nieces and nephews in the Steiner family.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Victor L. Steiner; daughter-in-law Patt Steiner; her parents, John and Sarah Shanks; her brother, Robert Shanks of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
A Celebration of Caroline’s Life will be held at 11:00 am on Sat. Dec. 9, 2017, at New Heights Lutheran Church, 1705 Center St Black Earth WI. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00.
A very special thank you to granddaughter, Amy Jambura for taking exceptional care of grandma in the difficult days of her final hours. Thank you to Dr. Janell Hupp for her compassion and care of our mother and to Sauk Prairie Healthcare for the wonderful care our mother received through the years of her illness.
