Carole E. Hilden
MADISON/ EAU CLAIRE – Carole E. Hilden, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by family on June 24, 2014.
She was born in West Allis, Wis., on January 30, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Lebrasseur) Schockmel. Carole graduated from Central High School in 1950. She worked as a secretary for the Department of Defense in Japan from 1955 to 1957, and for the State of Wisconsin as a job coach, which she loved. Carole enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and meeting people. Her sassy sense of humor left an impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her four children, Jim McCarthy, Sherri Flack, Charles (Lydia) Flack, and Brenda (Adam) Newago; her six grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jerry (June) Schockmel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Frank Flack; and a brother, Don Schockmel.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Legacy Gardens and Agrace Hospice for their amazing care of Carole during her fragile end of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the family for a trust fund to be set up for Carole’s grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at ST PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2126 N. Sherman Avenue. Burial will follow at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
