Carol Jean Carlstrom

Carol Jean Carlstrom

VERONA/MADISON-Carol Jean Carlstrom, age 83, passed away at Agrace HospiceCare on Monday, May 1, 2017, from Parkinson’s Disease.

She was born on March 19, 1934, to Ralph and Alma Lind of Rockford, Ill., and was the youngest of seven children.

Carol graduated from Rockford East High School in 1952, and then attended Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing graduating in September 1955. On October 29, 1955, she married Floyd Warren Carlstrom. Together they settled in the Madison/Verona area where they spent the rest of their lives and celebrated 62 years of marriage this past October.

Carol worked at UW Hospitals and clinics for over 20 years, retiring in May, 1997. She was fiercely proud of her Scandinavian heritage, loyal to her husband, Floyd, and proud of her children.

Carol was known to enjoy gardening, and hosting family celebrations. She and Floyd enjoyed their travels, participating in antique car tours and mostly their time spent at their treasured cottage on Sand Lake. Many wonderful years were spent at the cottage that Carol and Floyd built together in the late 1960’s. The cottage is still the family’s favorite gathering place. Her family will never forget their “Grams” water-skiing into her 70’s and going to the fudge shop with them each summer.

Carol is survived by her husband, Floyd; daughters, Debbie Kollberg and Diane (Greg) Kopan; grandchildren, Jennie (Joel) Nellis, Ashley (Brandon) Rivas, Ryan Kollberg, Trinity Kopan, Lindsey (Jeff) Carlstrom Whitehead, and Lacey (John) Strong; great grandchildren, Adrik, Annika and Anden Nellis, Kaylynn and Kenley Rivas, and Chase and Ian Carlstrom Whitehead; and sister-in-law Janet Gehlhausen. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dale Carlstrom; and son-in-law, Paul Kollberg.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd. Fitchburg, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 with Chaplain Steve Zwettler presiding.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association in Carol’s memory. Carol’s family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for all of their loving care.
