Caretaker caught on video abusing Alzheimer’s patient at Fitchburg care facility pleads guilty
MADISON, Wis. — An Oregon woman who was caught on video abusing a resident with Alzheimer’s at a Fitchburg care facility pleaded guilty to a felony charge this week, online court records show.
Nafije Zeka, 52, pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon to one count of intentional abuse to a patient causing bodily harm.
According to a criminal complaint, a Department of Health Services suspected a case of abuse at Sylvan Crossing in June 2019. The victim’s family had also suspected their loved one was being abused and put up a camera in her room.
Video footage from that camera showed Zeka slapping the victim on her head, kicking her and pulling her hair, the complaint said.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 28.
