Car thief exits moving vehicle during car chase, flees on foot, police say
LODI, Wis. — A Lodi man was arrested Wednesday following a car chase involving a stolen vehicle, police said.
According to a news release, Lodi police received a call around 10:15 p.m. reporting a stolen 2016 Chevrolet Malibu that was stolen from a residence in the city of Lodi. Just over an hour and a half later, an officer spotted the vehicle. Law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle refused to stop. A slow-speed pursuit followed.
Police said the vehicle was equipped with OnStar, which assisted in reducing the vehicle’s speed. As the car was slowing down, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle continued driverless and entered a ditch.
Law enforcement officials identified the driver from previous encounters as 30-year-old Aaron J. Kotzer.
Kotzer was eventually apprehended Thursday morning in the area of the traffic stop he fled from, police said.
According to the release, he was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without consent, operating after revocation, resisting and obstructing law enforcement, eluding a law officer, two counts of felony bail jumping and theft of a financial card stemming from an incident in Lodi.
