‘Capitol Pink Out’ demonstrators encircle Statehouse in ribbon in support of Obamacare
MADISON, Wis. — Dozens of demonstrators encircled the Wisconsin Capitol with pink ribbon Saturday as part of a nationwide show of support for the Affordable Care Act.
Demonstrators held a pink ribbon around both the rotunda and the building’s exterior as part of a nationwide protest against Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., encouraged the demonstrations, with Sanders in a statement calling them “a grassroots uprising of the American people.”
Organizers said they chose the color pink because of its prominence at the Women’s March and at Planned Parenthood rallies.
