Capitol Petro shooter to spend 10 years in prison
MADISON, Wis. — The man who shot and killed a 28-year-old man outside a gas station on Madison’s south side in May will spend 10 years in prison and another 10 years on probation.
Kortney Moore, 29, was sentenced Thursday in the shooting death of 28-year-old Elijah Washington III, which occurred May 11 at the Capitol Petro gas station on Rimrock Road. Moore pleaded guilty in November to first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting.
The shooting was in retaliation for a shooting that killed Moore’s brother Martez outside a west side bar in April .
At sentencing, Moore apologized to Washington’s family, the court and the community for the shooting.
