Camp Helps Teach Young Students Healthy Habits
About 65 young students in Waunakee took part in an 8-mile bike ride Thursday as part of an effort to promote healthy habits.
The bike ride was part of Camp FUN, which stands for Faith and fitness United with Nutrition.
The week-long camp promotes healthy habits in young people, who are learning about things like nutrition, stress management and mind-body wellness.
Thursday’s ride took the students through the Pheasant Branch Conservancy.
“With obesity and diabetes and pre-diabetes in epidemic proportions in our country, it’s really important to me that we start focusing children on how to care for their body, mind and spirit while they’re young,” said Karen Marshall, St. Mary’s parish nurse who runs the camp at Peace Lutheran Church in Waunakee.
